STANDINGS

It's been a couple of weeks since we checked in on all of the affiliates at once. Since then, the Astros' four full-season affiliates have gone 29-26 collectively. In addition, the two DSL teams have started up and have a cumulative record of 11-11. Short Season A Tri-City will start on Monday the 19th at Connecticut. Rookie League Greeneville will start Thursday the 22nd at home. And the Gulf Coast League team will be the last team to get started on Monday the 26th.

Despite going 9-5 over the last two weeks, Fresno hasn't been able to get any traction on Reno and they remain 10 games behind the Diamondbacks affiliate. The Hooks (5-8 over the same span) have fallen below .500 and have been eliminated from contention in the first half of the season with San Antonio (Padres) earning the first half crown. Buies Creek (6-8 over their last 14 games) dropped out of first place thanks in large part to a red-hot Myrtle Beach team (Cubs). The BC Astros have also been eliminated from the first half with Myrtle Beach clinching a first half title. The River Bandits (9-5 over their last 14 games) are still alive in the first half by the skin of their teeth, thanks to taking two of three from Cedar Rapids (Twins) and forcing them into second place. Kane County (D'Backs) took first place in the division while the now second and third place teams fought it out. But with three teams jockeying for position, three games left to go and an elimination number of two, a lot of things will have to fall right for the Quad Cities crew to prevail in the first half.

AAA Fresno 3rd 32-35 .478 10.0GB L2
AA Corpus 3rd 31-34 .477 7.5GB W1
HiA Buies Creek 2nd 36-31 .537 5.0GB W1
LoA Quad Cities 3rd 35-30 .538 1.5GB W2
DSL Orange: T-4th 5-6 .455 5.0GB W2
DSL Blue: T-3rd 6-5 .545 2.0GB W2

ROSTER MOVES/TRANSACTIONS

Note: The Astros have been moving players back and forth to either Tri-City or Extended Spring Training as a means of managing their rosters. I won't be including those moves in this list if I believe that they are only being made on paper for roster management.

6-15: Astros signed RHP Elian Rodriguez (20-year old Cuban)
6-15: RHP Andrew Walter assigned to Corpus Christi from Buies Creek
6:14: OF Derek Fisher called up to Houston from Fresno (RHP Jandel Gustave moved to the 60-day DL in the corresponding 40-man roster move)
6-14: RHP Kyle Smith assigned to Fresno from Corpus Christi
6-13: RHP Dean Deetz placed on the Fresno 7-day DL (retroactive to 6/10)
6-12: 2B Jonathan Matute assigned to the GCL from the DSL
*6-10: RHP Akeem Bostick (Corpus Christi) activated from suspension
*6-10: 1B Jon Singleton (Corpus Christi) activated from suspension
6-9: LHP Ashur Tolliver activated from the Fresno DL
6-9: RHP Ralph Garza assigned to Buies Creek from Fresno

*I do not know the nature of the Singleton and Bostick suspensions, but I do know that Singleton recently served a 3-day suspension for a more-or-less minor infraction of club rules.
